Mary Elizabeth Thornton, 90, of Decatur, IL passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday (April 29, 2010) at Imboden Creek Living Center.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday (May 3, 2010) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Central Christian Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family via e-mail at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Mrs. Thornton was born on January 22, 1920 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Curtis Marshall and Lena Agnes (Disney) Hughes. She graduated from Decatur high School midyear 1938.  She was a homemaker, a member of Central Christian Church, involved in Southeast School PTA where she served as treasurer, John's Hill Jr. High PTA and Eisenhower High School PTA. She enjoyed outdoor activities, flowers, golfing and travelling throughout the U.S.A. She married Woodrow W. Thornton on September 14, 1940 in St. Charles, MO.

Surviving is her husband: Woodrow W. Thornton of Decatur, IL; daughter: Kathy Elizabeth Thornton of Decatur, IL; sisters: Ruth Jeanette Easterling of Mt. Zion, IL and Charlotte May Mahoney of Sacramento, CA; nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her parents, daughter: Carolyn Sue Thornton, two sisters: Dorothy Louise Robb and Evelyn Marie Grant.
